Gentle Giants Whale Watching In Husavik, Northern Iceland –

Posted by on Thursday, 11 March, 2010

One of the best places in the world today to see the world’s largest mammals is in the small town of Husavik in Iceland.

Husavik at Skjalfandi Bay, Iceland

Husavik is located on the shores of the Skjalfandi bay and has a population of approximately 2,500 people. it is a picturesque harbour town backed by mountains with snow peaks and most are involved in the fishing or tourism industry.

Found in the north-eastern area of Iceland, this little town has become one of the foremost places to whale watch because travelers can “watch” a number of whale species. during almost every tour, it is almost certain that whales can be spotted – and you won’t be left disappointed at the number of species going through the area, just south of the Greenland Sea.

The whale species that pass through this northern Iceland’s area include: Minke whales, Humpback whales, Fin whales, Sei whales, Orca or Killer whales, dolphins and harbour porpoises.

While Husavik is a small town, it offers restaurants that no doubt serve excellent seafood options. Cafes and restaurants line the harbour where you can watch boats come and go. Tours through the area are also available including Jokulsargljufar National Park where a 120 meter deep and 500 meter wide canyon lies, forming waterfalls and fascinating rock formations.

'The Cove' wins Oscar for Best Documentary – but Fisher Stevens misses the …

Posted by on Monday, 8 March, 2010

Last month, I got to speak with director Louie Psihoyos about his Oscar-nominated documentary “The Cove.” when asked about the possibility of winning an Academy Award, here’s what Psihoyos had to say:

“A billion people will see the Academy Awards,” said Psihoyos in a telephone interview. “That’s why I’d like to win. because for 45 seconds you can talk directly to all the key people who are involved in these policies.”

Unfortunately, Producer Fisher Stevens – missing the point and a huge opportunity – gave the acceptance speech and never actually said the word “Dolphin.”

If you’re interested in helping to stop the horrifying murder of dolphins in Japan, here are some helpful links:
