BURBANK, California – Another victory for Filipinos: Poreotix is America’s Best Dance Crew (ABDC) champion.

The 6-member, all-Asian team from Orange County, California beat out Blueprint Crew of Montreal to win the hit MTV show’s fifth season. Poreotix joins Jabbawockeez, Supercr3w, and Quest Crew as winners comprised of several Filipino teammates.

“Salamat po to all the fans in the Philippines, thank you for supporting us!” said Poreotix member Justin “Jet Li” Valles.

Poreotix impressed the audience and judges week after week with their style of popping and robotic movements, coupled with a heavy dose of comedy.

Lawrence “Law” Devera says Poreotix’s formula for success was simple: “Just staying true to ourselves and showing everybody what we’re all about, and showing everybody our personalities and our character.”

Poreotix was not the only crew with Filipinos in season 5. third place team Hype 5-O from Hawaii was mostly Filipino. Other teams with Pinoy talent included Static Noyze and Heavy Impact.

“Dance is so important to Filipinos—dance and art,” said Enrique Novales of Static Noyze.

Heavy Impact was also noteworthy since all of its members were large men, who proved they could dance and do acrobatic stunts as well as their smaller competitors.

“If you notice, we’re all different nationalities and so we just want to represent that different people—no matter how you look or how you feel about yourself—if you have a dream and you keep pursuing it and working hard, anything can happen,” said Greg Baja of Heavy Impact.

Harry Shum Jr., choreographer and star of the hit FOX musical show “Glee,” says he is a big fan of Poreotix’s dancing and comic antics.

“I love them! They’re so funny. if you can make someone laugh and entertain them, you can win their hearts,” Shum said.

As winners of America’s Best Dance Crew, Poreotix receives $100,000. Members say they will use some of the money to pay for college. while the show may be done, it’s likely only the beginning for Poreotix, who follow in the busy footsteps of Jabbawockeez, Quest, and Supercr3w. Balitang America
